This presentation will explore techniques and methodologies for promoting successful inclusion of special needs individuals within a standards driven music education environment. Emphasis will be given to the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) structure and its distillation into specific strategies for lesson plan adaptations within the music education environment. Educators will be provided with a principle-based approach to establishing achievable goals, as well as methods for working towards them with confidence. The discussion will also focus on how to best leverage (and supplement) the efforts of service providers already working with the special needs student.
